EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head cross country coach April Ecke announced today the signing of two athletes to national letters of intent to run at NU beginning in the 1999-2000 school year: Rachel Evjan (Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood).
Evjan is a three-time all-state performer and has finished in the top 10 all four years in the Wisconsin state championship meet, including runner-up honors each of the last three years. She is also a three-time conference and sectional champion, and a two-time team captain. Additionally, Evjen is a two-time all-state academic award recipient. "Rachel is a very talented runner and has a great personality," says Ecke. "She will be a great fit in our program." Rogers finished fifth in the Missouri state championships as a senior, helping her team to a state runner-up finish. She is a four-time all-state honoree who won five meets as a senior, including the conference and district championships. She finished second in sectionals as a senior. Rogers led Kirkwood to a state championship her junior year.
"Karen really improved last year and she will only get better with more training," says Ecke. "We're really happy to have her for next year."
