Chawansky Named All-Big Ten for Third-Straight Year

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior guard Megan Chawansky (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) of the Northwestern University women's basketball team was named a first team All-Big Ten selection by the media and a second team All-Big Ten honoree by the conference coaches, announced today prior to the start of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.
In 1997, Chawansky was named third team All-Big Ten by the coaches and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the media. In 1998, she was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by both the coaches and the media.
This season, Chawansky was one of only two players in the Big Ten to finish among the top five players in scoring (17.3 ppg), assists (5.5 apg) and steals (2.12 spg). The other was Big Ten Player of the Year Stephanie White-McCarty of Purdue. Chawansky posted three of her 11 career double-doubles this season and scored a season-high 29 points at Michigan State on Feb. 12.
Serving as team captain for the second-consecutive season, Chawansky became the first player in school history to record more than 1,700 points, 600 rebounds, 500 assists and 150 steals in a career. She ranks among the top 10 Wildcat career leaders in nine statistical categories: free throws attempted (2nd - 650), free throws made (3rd - 441), scoring (3rd - 1,737 points), assists (4th - 524 assists), three-pointers made (4th - 132), three-pointers attempted (4th - 374), games played (5th - 119 games), rebounds (7th - 665 rebounds) and steals (8th - 190 steals).
Chawansky and ninth-seeded Northwestern (11-15, 5-11 Big Ten) face eighth-seeded Iowa in today's first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Tipoff is 3 p.m. CST at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
