Northwestern swept Illinois in a doubleheader for the first time since 1991 with the two low-scoring wins. In game 1, sophomore right-hander J.J. Standring (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) pitched a complete game for his first career shutout.
In game 2, senior right-hander Phil Rosengren (Barrington, Ill./Rye Country Day) gave up only one run in six and two-thirds innings. Freshman left-hander Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) earned his Big Ten-leading fifth save by coaxing a comebacker from the game's final hitter.
