Baseball Falls in Opener to Pacific

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Northwestern's baseball team dropped the first game of its season in heart-breaking fashion, committing two errors in the bottom of the ninth inning to lose 8-7 to the University of the Pacific during the first day of the Oakland As/Rawlings Tournament.
NU scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-4 lead, and rang up two outs before giving up four runs on a bases-loaded triple and a throwing error. Seven of Pacifics eight runs were unearned.
NU Senior Phil Rosengren (Barrington, Ill./Rye Country Day) threw 125 pitches over six and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and giving up one earned run to earn a no-decision. Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Kurella (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) went for 4 with three runs scored.
