50 Wildcats Named Academic All-Big Ten

EVANSTON, Ill. - Fifty Northwestern fall sports student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors during the 1998 fall season.
Gary Barnett's football team had 11 honorees, including the nation's leading tackler, senior linebacker Barry Gardner and Lou Groza Award semifinalist, senior kicker Brian Gowins. Marcia McDermott's 14th-ranked women's soccer team had 10 representatives, including Big Ten Player of the Year Erica WWWrica Westrich.
Michael Kunert's men's soccer team had 10 honorees and nine of 13 members of Kevin Renshler's volleyball team earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Diane Loosbrock's field hockey squad had six reppppthe first year cross country program had four resentatives and April Ecke's first-year cross country program had four honorees.
Student-athletes must be a letterwinner and in at least their second year at NU while carrying a minimum 3.0 grade poin NU honorees:
