BOSTON, Mass. - The Northwestern women's basketball team gave 24th-ranked Boston College a run for one half Sunday afternoon, but the Eagles regrouped to post an 86-55 victory at Conte Forum in Boston.
The win improved BC to 8-3, while Northwestern fell to 2-6.
Northwestern fought gallantly through the first half, grabbing an early lead before seeing BC go on a 7-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. That advantage swelled to as much as 10 during the half, before a balanced offensive attack by the 'Cats closed the gap to 32-27 by the break.
In the second half, though, it was all BC. The Eagles scored nine of the first 11 points, opening up a 41-29 lead, then swelled it to 53-33 with a 12-2 run. Northwestern kept the difference around the 20-point mark for awhile after that, but a 15-4 BC run late made the score 71-43. Northwestern never got closer than 24 after that.
Leslie Schock led the 'Cats in scoring, notching 15 points. Leslie Dolland had eight points and six rebounds, while Leah Berki also added eight points.
For BC, Cal Bouchard led five Eagles in double figures with 25 points. Nicole Conway had 12 points, Alissa Murphy and Brianne Stepherson added 11 apiece, and Jamie Cournoyer scored 10.
Northwestern will be in action at Welsh-Ryan Arena Tuesday night, hosting Creighton University in a 7 p.m. start.
