EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's basketball team upped its record to 3-5 with its second win in four days by defeating Jacksonville, 67-59, Tuesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Down by 18 points with 18:16 left in the game, the Dolphins staged an aggressive rally to pull to within a bucket with 10:13 remaining. On Jacksonville?s ensuing possession, however, NU freshman Ben Johnson stole the ball and drove the length of the court for a critical three-point play.

That sequence seemed to take the wind out of JU?s sails, as the Wildcats were not seriously threatened again, building a lead of as many as 11 points.

NU had four players score in double figures, led by Johnson who tied his career high with 18 points. Sophomore Steve Lepore chipped in 14 points, sophomore Tavaras Hardy tallied 13 and freshman Aaron Jennings had a career-high 12 points. Jennings was 3-of-3 from the field and also had two blocked shots, while Hardy led the ?Cats in rebounds with 10 to notch his second double-double of the season.

Jacksonville, which fell to 2-5, had three players score in double figures, led by Calvin Slaughter and Kevin Sheppard who had 14 points each.

Northwestern returns to action this Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena when they take on Western Carolina in a 1 p.m. tip.
