Women's Basketball Falls to DePaul, 74-42

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's basketball team allowed DePaul to make significant runs in both halves, and that spelled the difference as the Blue Demons defeated the Wildcats, 74-42, Monday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The win improved DePaul to 5-2, while NU fell to 2-4.
Playing for the first time in nine days, the Wildcats took an early 4-2 lead but saw the Blue Demons score the next 18 points to take control. In fact, the run extended to 23-2, and with 10:34 to play the score was 25-6. Northwestern recovered enough to stay within striking distance, cutting into the lead with a 10-2 run to make the score 33-20 by halftime.
In the second half, the teams traded baskets for five minutes, before DePaul effectively ended the contest with an 18-2 run over a span of four minutes. That made the score 59-29, and the Blue Demons cruised from there.
DePaul rattled the Wildcats with a ferocious pressure defense, forcing 36 turnovers and coming up with 27 steals. Northwestern pulled down 43 rebounds to the Blue Demons? 28.
Leslie Schock was the only NU player in double figures, as she scored 10 points and tore down eight boards while also dishing out four assists. Leslie Dolland had nine points, while Leah Berki added eight points and five rebounds.
For DePaul, Jamie Lewis scored 13 points while Laura Sobieszczyk added 12 to lead a balanced attack that saw 11 different players score.
Northwestern will be back in action Thursday, traveling to the University of Maine for a game against the Black Bears. On Sunday, the Wildcats will meet No. 24 Boston College in Boston.
