
Cross Country Signs Two to Letters of Intent

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University cross country coach April Ecke announced the signing of two runners to National Letters of Intent. Both women hail from Rockford High School in Michigan, the second-ranked team in the latest national high school polls. They will begin running for the Wildcats in the fall of 2000.
Emily Blakeslee is currently rated among the Top 50 cross country runners in the United States by Marc Bloom of Harrier Magazine. After finishing as runner-up at the Michigan Class A state cross country championships in 1998, Blakeslee was fifth at this year?s meet as Rockford won the title both times. In addition, she took 17th at the 1999 Foot Locker National Track Meet in the two-mile run, clocking 10:52. Blakeslee is a three-time Class A all-state selection in cross country in Michigan, and was the Michigan Senior Champion this fall.
Nora Colligan was also a member of those Rockford state championship teams, earning all-conference in cross country four times and all-conference in track three times as well as all-state in both. Last year, she earned All-America in track as a member of Rockford?s 4x800 relay team that took third at the Foot Locker National Track Meet.
