EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0) suffered a disappointing loss to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers (1-0, 0-0) Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Junior center Tami Sears led the ?Cats with 17 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

?This loss shows how hard we really need to work in practice,? said Sears.

The Wildcats led for most of the first half, thanks in large part to an outrageous number of Panther fouls. However, UW-Milwaukee took a three-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

The ?Cats came out firing in the second half, but shot just 13-for-33 (.394). They were outshot by the Panthers, who went 12-for-27 (.444). NU also did not take advantage of their free throw opportunites in the second half, going 1-9 (.111) to offset UWM's 20 fouls.

?We continue to struggle but we also continue to grow. With that we need water, fertilizer and sunshine," head coach June Olkowski said. ?I hope I?m the sunshine.?

Junior guard Dana Leonard came up with 11 points, including two 3-pointers. Off the bench, senior forward Leslie Schock added nine points and 10 rebounds.

NU?s four freshmen all saw game action. Forward Leslie Dolland and guard Emily Butler started, while forwards Natalie Will and Nicole Daniels contributed off the bench. Dolland scored four points and grabbed two rebounds.

For UW-Milwaukee, junior guard Teri Stoltenberg came up with 17 points.

NU outrebounded the Panthers, 42-38, and scored more second chance points (11-4).

NU is off until November 30, when the Wildcats travel to Iowa State for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
