Women's Tennis Completes Play at the Seminole Classic

The Northwestern women's tennis team participated in Florida State's Seminole Classic over the weekend and came back to Evanston with some hardware.

Katherine Nasser and Lia Jackson teamed up in the A Flight doubles competition and defeated Vanderbilt's Kristy Blumberg and Kate Burson, 8-5, for the title. In A flight singles, Nasser fell to Alida Gallovits in the championship (6-1, 6-3) while Marine Piriou won the consolation bracket by defeating Miami's Broderick 6-0, 6-1.

Jennifer Lutgert and Colleen Cheng, meanwhile, competed at the 1999 Riviera Women's All-America Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. Cheng handily defeated her second-round opponent, Fresno State's Ewa Gursiecka (6-1, 6-1). As a result, she will compete in the qualifying rounds at the Riveria Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., this week. On the other hand, Lutgert was defeated by UC-Irvine's Mauren Diaz (6-3, 6-1) in the first round.

In doubles action, Cheng and Lutgert defeated a Pepperdine duo (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) in the first round before dropping a second-round match to Duke's Siripipat and Plesu (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).
