Women's Golf in Second at The Shootout

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's golf team is in second place after one day at the Shootout at the Legends golf tournament, being held on the par-72 Legends golf course in Franklin, Ind.

The Wildcats shot 303-300=603 on the first day and are 22 strokes behind Oklahoma State. A pair of Big Ten schools, Purdue and Indiana, are nipping at Northwestern's heels. Both shot a total of 604 in the first day.

Christie Hermes is Northwestern's top competitor through the first day. The junior shot 71-77 for a four-over par total of 148, putting her in a tie for seventh place five strokes off the pace being set by OSU's Maria Boden. Senior Karen England totaled 76-74=150 and is tied for 10th overall, while freshman Elizabeth Burden is one of four players tied for 19th with a total of 152 (77-75).

Emily Gilley (tie 23rd, 79-74=153) and Colleen Kiely (tie 37th, 79-78=157) round out Northwestern's participants at the Shootout, which will conclude Tuesday afternoon.
