Marine Piriou Wins B Flight Singles at Midwest Blast

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Marine Piriou won the second singles flight at the Midwest Blast last weekend hosted by Illinois. She defeated Maryland's Catherine Valentine in the championship match (6-4, 6-1). Piriou's victory is her second collegiate win in as many weeks.

Shannon Duffy and Katherine Nasser both reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in the first singles flight, but could not pull out wins to advance to the semifinal round. Lia Jackson, meanwhile, advanced to the semifinals and was defeated by Clemson's Carmina Giraldo (6-2, 6-3).

The Wildcats return to fall tournament action on Thursday, Oct. 15, as members will compete in either the Florida State Invitational or the All-American Pre-qualifier in Los Angeles.
