As Northwestern’s most decorated fencer, four-time All-American Sam Nemecek won a school-record 430 bouts with the foil and racked up an .855 winning percentage (430-73), which ranked second in program history upon her graduation.
Nemecek won over 100 bouts in each of her four seasons, including a career-best 121 during her sophomore campaign of 2006-07. She earned four first-team Midwest Fencing Conference honors in her career and captured two MFC foil championships—once as a freshman in 2006 and then again with a perfect 12-0 record as a senior in 2009. She helped the Northwestern foilists win back-to-back weapon titles in 2006 and 2007.
At the NCAA Championships, Nemecek compiled a career 59-34 record, finishing eighth twice, seventh once and a career-best sixth as a senior in 2009. She was named Northwestern’s female recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2009.
