Scheid's 17-Point Performance Leads ’Cats at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — Late-game heroics by sophomore forward Abi Scheid were not enough to push Northwestern over Wisconsin on Sunday night at the Kohl Center.
Scheid nearly single-handedly closed the gap between the Wildcats and the Badgers in the third quarter, converting a pair of clutch three-pointers and scoring all nine of NU's points to start the second half. Chicago's Big Ten Team outscored Wisconsin, 15-9, in the third quarter.
The Wildcats took the lead in the latter part of the fourth quarter, but fell to the Badgers, 58-46. Scheid finished with a team-high 17 points.
Northwestern dominated the offensive glass in the game, logging 16 boards compared to Wisconsin's six. Junior forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah contributed on that front, finishing with her team-high 11th double-double of the season (12 points, 11 rebounds).
The Wildcats were able to take advantage of takeaways, leading the points-off-turnovers battle, 16 to seven. The 'Cats forced 13 Badger turnovers on the day.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah led the way in the first half, rattling off eight points while collecting eight rebounds. Scheid also amassed eight points in the game-opening half.
Sophomore forward Abbie Wolf was efficient in the first 20 minutes, converting two of three shots while dishing out a pair of helpers. She finished the game with a team-best +16 in the plus/minus metric.
Northwestern returns home to face Maryland on Thursday, Jan. 25. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. against the Terrapins, currently ranked No. 14 in the nation in the most recent Associated Press women's basketball poll.
