EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern assistant coach Sam Dixon has been named the head women's basketball coach at Nebraska Wesleyan. Dixon will lead the Division III school in Lincoln, Nebraska, after five years on the sideline in Evanston.

Dixon has been with Northwestern since May 2012.

"We are really happy for Sam to have the opportunity to be the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan," said Northwestern head coach Joe McKeown. "Sam has done a great job helping us build Northwestern into a top program. He worked tirelessly every day to make our program better, and his work ethic and teaching skills had a great impact. He cares deeply about his student-athletes, and we wish him the best in his new role."

In his five seasons with the Wildcats, Dixon helped lead Northwestern to three postseason appearances, including the 2015 NCAA Tournament, as well as two 20-win seasons. He assisted in the development of 16 All-Big Ten selections, three All-Defensive Team selections, three All-Freshman Team selections, a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and a Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Most recently, Dixon played a role in the development of two of the best players to come through Northwestern. Ashley Deary finished her career as the all-time steals leader in the Big Ten, while Nia Coffey graduated as the all-time leading rebounder and second-leading scorer in program history. Coffey was drafted fifth overall by the San Antonio Stars in the 2017 WNBA Draft.
