Lindley To Participate In First-Of-Its-Kind Athletics Health Summit

IRVING, Texas – Northwestern Associate Director of Athletics Tory Lindley has been invited, as part of an elite group of athletic trainers and other industry professionals, to take part in a two-day, first-of-its-kind summit (Jan. 25-26) intended to develop a best practices document that addresses the core principles of athletics health care delivery.
Co-chaired by NCAA Chief Medical Officer Brian Hainline and Clarion University Head Athletic Trainer Jim Thornton, the 'Interassociation Summit on the Organization and Administration of Athletics Health Care Services in the College/University Environment' will include 18 athletic trainers across all divisions and a representative from industry organizations, including: American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine , American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Osteopathic Academy for Sports Medicine, American Psychological Association- Division 47, Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitians Association, Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, Faculty Athletics Representative Association , National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, National Athletic Trainers' Association, National Collegiate Athletics Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association, University Risk Management and Insurance Association.
The two-day agenda features discussion of four core principles: (1) infrastructure; (2) athletics health care administration and organization; (3) communication and implementation of evolving inter-association recommendations and NCAA legislation; (4) assuring independent medical care in all medical decision-making.
Lindley currently serves as Vice President of the National Association of Athletic Trainers (NATA). He joined Northwestern in 2002 and currently serves as associate athletic director, director of athletic training services and head athletic trainer for the Wildcats.
He received the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association Golden Pinnacle Award in 2016, the district associations' highest honor. Lindley is a member of the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, received the 2012 NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award and also was recognized as the 2012 Division I Head Athletic Trainer of the Year. He is currently an associate editor for the Athletic Training & Sports Health Care journal and is the NATA liaison to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. A former president of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association and the Illinois Athletic Trainers' Association, he has been an NATA board member since 2014.
