Lumpkin, Northwestern Earn NABC Academic Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has recognized both senior forward Sanjay Lumpkin and the Wildcats as a team for their efforts in the classroom.
Lumpkin earned a selection to the NABC Honors Court. In order to be eligible for the honor, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and sport a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year. It is the second straight year that Lumpkin has earned the recognition. A June graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in learning and organizational change, the Wayzata, Minnesota, native is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Lumpkin will return to the Wildcats for the upcoming 2016-17 season while pursuing a graduate degree.
Additionally, Northwestern was named a recipient of the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. The honor is bestowed upon teams that achieved a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 during the 2015-16 academic year.
The Wildcats are the only Big Ten Conference school this year to earn the distinction.
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
