ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Illinois – Chicago's premier thoroughbred racetrack, Arlington International Racecourse, will turn purple and white for the sixth-consecutive year to celebrate Northwestern Day on Sunday, June 5. The event, beginning at 1:15 p.m., will recognize the pride of Chicago's Big Ten Team with unique and special events for fans of all ages.
Northwestern Day at Arlington will be the first opportunity for fans to pick up the second edition of the four-part 2016 Northwestern Football Poster Series.
While world-class thoroughbreds speed around the Arlington track, several of Northwestern's top coaches will be on hand to meet fans throughout race day. NU's Marching Band and Willie the Wildcat will be at the park for special performances and photo opportunities.
"We're so excited to return to Arlington International Racecourse for Northwestern Day on June 5," said Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips. "It's a wonderful opportunity for the fans and friends of Chicago's Big Ten Team to gather for a day during the offseason."
The afternoon on the Arlington Park track will feature the "Northwestern University Cup." Each horse in the race will feature an NU branded saddlecloth and Northwestern and Arlington representatives will have a special presentation in the Winner's Circle immediately following the race.
"Arlington is proud to be partners with such a prestigious institution as Northwestern University," said Tony Petrillo, Arlington General Manager. "The energy that the Wildcat marching band, the student athletes and coaches bring makes this one of the most special days of the season at Arlington."
Northwestern fans have the opportunity to purchase general admission tickets for $2 off the regular price when using the code NUDAY16 at the Arlington website. More information on Arlington International Racecourse, including parking and directions, can be found at ArlingtonPark.com.
