Nia Coffey Sets Rebounding Record, #B1GCats Beat Chicago State, 75-42

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior forward Nia Coffey broke a 31-year program record when she recorded career rebound 952 on Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Coffey passed Anucha Browne (1982-85) with her ninth rebound of the game early in the third quarter. She finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, which is tied for fourth in the country.
Coffey scored in double-digits for the 56th consecutive game, dating back to Jan. 22, 2015, to tie a school record also held by Browne. Coffey's double-double was the 45th of her career.
Northwestern beat the visiting Cougars, 75-42, to move to 7-1 on the year.
Chicago's Big Ten Team turned in another balanced offensive performance with 12 players getting on the scoresheet and all 15 Wildcats registering minutes.
Senior guard Ashley Deary brought her all-around game and posted 12 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Hankins also added 12 points with a scorching 4-for-7 performance from beyond the arc.
Northwestern moved the ball around the floor the entire game, assisting on 24 of their 31 field goals. Freshman Byrdy Galernik notched seven assists, and Maya Jonas and Lauren Douglas each added four.
The 'Cats held the Cougars to just 42 points on 26 percent shooting from the field, the lowest point total and field goal percentage NU has allowed all season. Northwestern finished with nine blocks and eight steals.
The Wildcats shot 47 percent in the first quarter and took an early 17-11 lead. Galernik added four points and four assists in the second quarter to give the 'Cats a 36-21 lead at the half.
Northwestern ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 39-21. The highlight of the game came when Jonas tipped a cross-court pass to Hankins who hit a buzzer-beating three at the end of the third quarter.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action next Sunday, Dec. 11, when it travels to Milwaukee to face the Panthers at noon.
