Austin Carr Named Biletnikoff Semifinalist

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (tight end, slot receiver and back, inside receiver, wide receiver, split end, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely the outstanding wide receiver.
The ten 2016 Biletnikoff Award semifinalists, as selected in voting by the distinguished members of the Biletnikoff Award National Selection committee, are as follows:
Austin Carr, Northwestern, WR
Corey Davis, Western MIchigan, WR
Amba Etta-Tawo, Syracuse, WR
Carlos Henderson, Louisiana Tech, WR
Isaiah "Zay" Jones, Eastern Carolina, WR
John Ross, Washington, WR
Taywan Taylor, Western Kentucky, WR
Trent Taylor, Louisiana Tech, WR
James Washington, Oklahoma State, WR
Dede Westbrook, Oklahoma, WR
Carr, who is also a semifinalist for the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy awarded to the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on, leads the Big Ten in receptions (75), receiving yards (1,102), yard per game (110.2) and touchdowns (12). He ranks sixth nationally in touchdowns, ninth in yards and receptions per game and 10th in yards per game. Carr has already tied the Northwestern single-season record with his 12 touchdowns and is just 144 yards shy of setting the single-season yards mark.
A native of Benecia, California, Carr has caught a touchdown in eight of 10 games, including six-straight from Sept. 10 to Oct. 22. The streak is tied with Western Michigan's Corey Davis for the longest in the country this season. Carr is the only player in the country to have at least five catches and 73 yards receiving in every game this season and gone over 100 yards receiving six times. He is averaging 8.1 catches and 117 yards per game during Big Ten play.
FanVote and FanForum
Recently, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation opened the 2016 FanVote and FanForum. Every fan may vote once daily on the Biletnikoff Award FanVote page. The aggregate fan tally will be counted as one official vote to determine semi-finalists (ten receivers), finalists (three), and the winner. In the closest contest in years, the FanVote tally provided the one-vote margin of victory for 2013 winner Brandin Cooks of Oregon State. The Biletnikoff Award FanForum consists of fan-created discussion topics that allow sports fans to voice their opinions.
